As a form of cosmic irony, characters' roles reverse as the series progresses. Sometimes, characters fulfill a role that is opposite from an earlier one. Other times, they reverse roles with a specific other character.

Reversal of characters' own roles

Alexander Mahone	Federal Agent	Prisoner	Mahone was in the first season of his appearance, a Federal Agent. Later, because of a set-up by Michael, he was brought to prison and became a prisoner.
Alexander Mahone	Hunted man	Hunting man	When Alexander Mahone was following the Fox River Eight, he was a hunted man. When Mahone broke out of Sona as one of the Sona Four, he was a hunting man.
Alexander Mahone	Drug addict	Clean man	Mahone was the first 3 seasons, a drug addict. In the Final Break, Mahone was clean for 3 weeks.
Alexander Mahone	[[Image:|150px]] Patient visitor	[[Image:|150px]] Patient	Mahone did visit Coyote, when he was a patient. 1 episode later, he was shot by Kellerman and in the next episode, he became a patient.

Theodore 'T-Bag' Bagwell	[[Image:|150px]] Prisoner	Sales man	T-Bag was a prisoner during season 1 and season 3. T-Bag discovered later outside Sona, the Birds Guidebook. T-Bag used it for itself as alias of Cole Pfeiffer. T-Bag worked then for a little time as sales man.
Theodore Bagwell	Escape member	[[Image:|150px]] Escape planner	T-Bag was first an escape member in the plans of Michael in season 1 and season 3. After season 3 and around the time of Breakout Kings, he made 2 escape plans.
Sara Tancredi	Doctor	[[Image:|150px]] Patient	Sara was in the first season, a doctor. In season 2 and Prison Break: The Final Break, she was a patient.
Sara Tancredi	Prison Doctor	Prisoner	Sara was first at Fox River, a doctor for prisoners. Later, she was a prisoner herself in Prison Break: The Final Break.

Michael Scofield	[[Image:|150px]] Non-killer	Murder	Michael was in the first 2 seasons, a non-killer. However, he did kill Sammy and Christina's bodyguard, making him a murder, something which he couldn't doing first.
Michael Scofield	[[Image:|150px]] Non-criminal	Criminal	Michael was first not a criminal, while doing all good things for people. When he did broke out James Whistler, he became a criminal.

Sara let the door open for Michael	Michael let the door open for Sara	When Michael Scofield tried to break out with his brother, Lincoln Burrows, he asked Sara Tancredi to let open the door. Later, when Sara was imprisonent, Michael did open the door for Sara to escape from a prison.

Paul Kellerman as high-ranking Company man Daniel Hale betrays Paul Kellerman	Bill Kim as high-ranking Company man Paul Kellerman betrays William Kim	First Paul Kellerman was a high-ranking Company man and Daniel Hale, the lower-ranking Company man. In season 2, Paul Kellerman became the lower-ranking Company man and Bill Kim was the high-ranking Company man. Also both men: Daniel Hale betrayed Kellerman and Kellerman betrayed William Kim in the episode in which they betrayed each other. Coincidentally both betrayels were in the 13th episode of their respective seasons.
Lincoln gets the death penalty	Papo gets the death penalty	Although Lincoln did got the death penalty, he survived in Fox River. Papo did get the death penalty and was shot dead by Colonel Escamilla in Sona.
